Genius2List is a Java based tool for Microsoft Windows® operating systems.

It interacts with Apple iTunes® to create static playlists out of iTunes® Genius Mixes, so you can use them in iTunes® or on non-supported devices such as the 5th generation iPod®.

Genius2List is free of charge for non commercial use ("freeware") and has been released under a proprietary license (Please see the "readme" file for licenses of used 3rd party components and more).

Quickstart

  • Step 1:
    Launch both, iTunes® and Genius2List.
  • Step 2:
    In iTunes®, select the Genius Mix you want to convert and pause it immediately.
  • Step 3:
    Follow the on-screen instructions in Genius2List.

Requirements

  • Windows® XP SP2, Windows® Vista, Windows® 7 or newer/equal.
    Both, 32bit and 64bit versions are supported.
  • Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.6 (JavaSE 6) or higher [Download].
  • Apple iTunes® 7 or higher.
    Users of iTunes® 9.0 must update to version 9.1 or higher.

Q: Is Genius2List free?

A: Yes, Genius2List is "freeware", but with some restrictions.
You can read the whole license during installation, in the license.txt located in the application directory.


Q: Genius2List wants me to install "Java Runtime Environment". Why?

A: In order to run Genius2List or any other Java Application or Applet, you’ll need to install this runtime environment.
Download the latest "JRE" at http://java.com/, if you don’t want to install it through Genius2List.


Q: Is Genius2List 64bit compatible?

A: Yes, Genius2List will use the 64bit Java Runtime Environment if available.
Please note, that Genius2List.exe itself is a 32bit "launcher", which spawns a 64bit process if needed.


Q: Which operating systems are supported by Genius2List?

A: Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or newer, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7.


Q: Do I need to launch Genius2List as an administrator?

A: No.


Q: What else do I need to run Genius2List?

A: – Apple iTunes® 7 or higher. Users of iTunes® 9.0 must update to version 9.1 or higher.
– Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0 or newer.


Q: Why is there no OSX version of Genius2List?

A: Genius2List communicates through the "iTunes Windows COM Interface", which is unfortunately not available on OSX.
On OSX, "Apple Script" is being used to access a running version of iTunes®.
Genius2List does not support "Apple Script".


Q: Genius2List reports: msvcr71.dll not found. Why?

A: It seems that the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime has not been installed on your machine.
Versions prior 1.1.0 did not include this file.
Please update Genius2List to solve this problem.


Q: Will Genius2List store any data in the registry?

A: No.
Genius2List stores its properties in the following folder:
"%USERPROFILE%\2finestudios\genius2list"

…where %USERPROFILE% is the path to your current user directory.

For example:
"C:\Users\AlterWolf\"


Q: Will Genius2List transfer any personal data through the internet?

A: Genius2List will not establish any internet connections.
